I've been wondering for a while when my brain would feel like weaving again.
I have made one woven project since the flood last year, but that's been it - until now.
Something about getting through the one year anniversary seemed to flip a switch for me, and both my hands and my mind were ready at the same time. And, to really mix things up, I decided to do my best to keep this piece all neutral!
This Large Woven Wall Hanging was woven on a frame loom using all natural materials. The chunky sections are made up of the most delicious cotton + merino mixed core spun yarn and the flat woven areas are a natural wool yarn with indigo drops throughout.
I really love the effect of the blue in the mix as a sort of "water stained" feeling - in the most lovely way.
I cut and sewed on 4 natural leather straps using leather scrap and cut and oiled a solid oak dowel to top off the natural feel of the whole piece.
I love the wonky waviness of this piece and how it really shows off the handmade quality. That slight bit of wave on the bottom is one of my favorite parts!
It really does come in waves, doesn't it?
*Because it's made of all wool, this piece is very lightweight and can hang from a single nail. If you'd rather the hanger be a little more invisible, I suggest using 2 nails and putting them right next to a leather strap on each side so they are hidden, but still provide even support.
